Civil War U.S. Belt Buckle Puppy-Paw Variety - Inventory Number: BEL 442 / SOLD
Non-excavated US 1839 pattern belt buckle. The rear is lead filled with stud style belt hooks behind the ‘S”, commonly referred to as “puppy paws” by collectors. These were typical of early Civil War buckles. This example is produced between 1861-1863, before being switched to the “arrow hook” design. This pattern is listed as plate 483 in American Military Belt Plates by Michael J. O’Donnell and J. Duncan Campbell. A fine example that shows gentle wear.
Comes housed in 5 inch x 6 inch riker display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
