Confederate Arsenal Alteration CS Converted US M-1836 Pistol By D.C. Hodgkins, Ga. - Inventory Number: CON 431
US M-1836 Flintlock pistol originally produced by R. Johnson of Middleton, Ct., that was converted to percussion by a southern arsenal. This piece has all the hallmark characteristics of a Confederate alteration from flintlock to percussion, that every collector wants to see. The style in which the conversion has been done is by a brazed bolster which is seen in the thin line of brass between the bolster and barrel.
The style of the bolster itself is very similar to those found on other converted muskets done by Daniel C. Hodgkins of Macon, Ga. Other Hodgkins traits seen in this example is the high spur hammer with very crude lines cut into it. The guns action is in good working order, is in complete condition with no missing parts, with a nice condition and well intact stock. This gun shows the ingenuity and the lengths in which the southern government and Arsenals were going too to arm the troops in the field!
