Confederate Short Artillery Sword by E. J. Johnson - Inventory Number: CON 596 / SOLD

Rare Confederate Short Artillery Sword manufactured by E. J. Johnson of Macon, Georgia. This stout, Roman-style sidearm features a heavy, double-edged blade with a pronounced median ridge and signs of field use. The distinctive cast brass hilt exhibits a crisply ribbed grip and integral crossguard, typical of Confederate production.

These swords were loosely based on the U.S. Model 1832 foot artillery pattern but exhibit the cruder yet charming workmanship characteristic of Southern-made arms under wartime scarcity. Johnson’s output is particularly notable for its localized casting techniques and regional distribution to Georgia-based artillery units.

A wonderful example of Confederate edge weapons craftsmanship, this piece offers both historical significance and rarity.

Blade shows age-darkened patina with areas of mottling; hilt exhibits untouched brass with fine patina. No scabbard present. A prized addition to any Confederate edged weapon collection.
