    Confederate Tax Document -  Inventory Number: CON 324 / SOLD
    Document titled “Tax in Kind, Form No.2” from the assessor of Surry County, North Carolina, dated November 28, 1864 to a Mr. S. Key. “Estimate and Assessment of Agricultural Products which are taxed in kind, agreed upon by the assessor and the tax payer, and the value of the portion thereof to which the Government is entitled, in accordance with the provisions of the Acts of Congress, ‘to lay taxes for the common defence and carry on the government of the Confederate States,’ and an act to amend said act, approved Feb. 17th, 1864. Said estimate and assessment to be returned to the District Quartermaster on or before the 1st day of January of each year.” Mr. Key’s total value in taxes from corn and cured fodder amounts to $37.40.” The document measures 18” by 12” and remains in good condition with some edge wear and water spots. A scarce Confederate tax document from the waning days of the Civil War.
