Embossed Leather Trunk - Inventory Number: PER 104 / SOLD
A beautiful example of Civil War Era workmanship. This measures 19 ¾” wide, 12” tall and 11” deep. The interior is lined in blue and white ticking cotton, white painted inscription on the sides reads: “M.H.H. Salem N.J.” Nicely embellished with designs on the lid.
Leather handles are reinforced with riveted brass supports. The sides are additionally reinforced with steel guards. There were a pair of straps which would have wrapped over the top which shields the skeleton lock mechanism. The leather remains in supple condition with little to no damage. The lid contains a trapdoor for the hat compartment with an original wooden plank to secure the door. Also retains a leather glove pouch. A very nice Civil War traveling trunk.
