Fixed Globe Lantern – Inventory Number: MIS 296

Fixed Globe lanterns were among the first lanterns introduced during the Civil War. Unlike later lantern designs, these lanterns were generally not standardized and were made in a variety of styles. The globes inside these lanterns were not removable, which required workers to use different hand signals or different lanterns to communicate. Complete with burner. some metal loss on bottom lip.  These were also very popular with railways and camps of the American Civil War.  Measures approximately 17” tall.
