Georgia Frame Buckle - Inventory Number: CON 514 / SOLD

    Battle of Spotsylvania

This is the classic Confederate frame buckle still often referred to as a Georgia frame since so many were found in that state by early relic hunters.  This example was recovered from the Battle of Spotsylvania.

This buckle is in excellent condition with only slight waviness, no breaks, smooth metal, and a deep brownish-green color. The plate is cast with the integral center bar and teeth flat on one side and very slightly rounded on the other. It was very well finished, with nicely squared inner and outer corners of the frame and those next to the center bar just slightly rounded.

This were elegantly simple, practical, and robust belt plates, probably the closest to a Confederate general service belt buckle as there is, but still manage to show several variations, which is not surprising since they were relatively easy to make and were in production throughout the south.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
