Gettysburg Cavalry Saber - Inventory Number: GET 485 / SOLD
Early Battlefield recovery, this model 1860 “Light Cavalry” saber was acquired by our gallery from a collection of items which were picked up and stored since the late 1800’s. Classic Ames manufactured example of the light model cavalry saber absolutely uncleaned and untouched patina. The brass hilt wears a black/bronze patina with smooth finish. The pommel cap is tight and shows some extra peening from the era. The original leather grip is present and in sound condition with twisted leather wire intact. The blade is exceptionally nice for an early recovery with much of it in a silver/grey appetence. The ricasso is marked lightly with the U.S. and does not show any other mornings. Possibly an early state or Bleckman contract. The original iron scabbard is present and has an even dark patina with a textured but not pitted surface. Both rings are soundly affixed and are now more oval from supporting the weight of the saber. A great example of an early battlefield pick-up relic of Gettysburg. Complete with a certificate of authenticity.
