Victorian-Era Halberd / Pike Head - Inventory Number: EDG 134
(19th Century Copy of Earlier Form)
A forged steel halberd-style polearm head, produced in the Victorian period as a decorative or ceremonial reproduction of 16th–17th century pikes and halberds. The head features a long, central thrusting spike, a broad axe blade to the left, and a downturned rear fluke to the right. The axe blade is pierced with circular cutouts in a decorative pattern, typical of revival pieces intended for display rather than combat. The central socket is rolled to accept a wooden haft, with period wear and oxidation throughout. These 19th-century revival polearms were commonly produced in England and on the Continent during the mid-to-late Victorian era, often for castle armories, private collections, or fraternal lodge displays. Though modeled on functional Renaissance and early modern polearms, their execution, the decorative piercings and often lighter construction—marks them clearly as copies rather than battlefield originals.
