    Manual of Bayonet Exercise by George B McClellan James H. Bogart 164th New York – Killed in Action - Inventory Number: HIS 196 / SOLD

    Served in Albany Zouave Cadets; 43rd NY Infantry (“Albany Rifles”); 162nd NY Infantry (“Metropolitan Guard”). Graduated Albany Academy. Charter member of Albany Zouave Cadets where he served as Color Sergeant.

    Enrolled in 43rd NY Infantry, Aug 3, 1861, at Albany, to serve three years; mustered in as first lieutenant, Co. A, Aug 25,1861; promoted adjutant, Sept 22,1861; discharged, July 16, 1862; commissioned first lieutenant, Nov 6, 1861, with rank from Aug 6, 1861; adjutant, Nov 6, 1861, with rank from Oct 1, 1861.

    Enrolled in 162nd NY Infantry, Sept 9, 1862, at New York City, to serve three years; mustered in as major, Oct 18, 1862; commissioned major, Oct 16, 1862, with rank from same date. While serving with the 162nd NY under Col. Lewis Benedict (also buried in Albany Rural Cemetery), Major Bogart was killed in action on June 14, 1863 at Port Hudson, La. of a shell wound to the left hip. His remains were returned to Albany and a funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Church, Albany, NY.
