Model 1842 Single Shot Pistol .54 Caliber Cartridge Box - Scarce - Inventory Number: LEA 452

This cartridge box was for the model 1842 single shot pistol of .54 caliber. Outer flap exhibit some light surface crazing. Designed for the small sized, oval “US” box plate, now lacking. Closing tab is complete and unbroken. Tab is sewn to the underside of the outer flap. The inner flap is unmarked and in nice condition. This flap covers a single, wide cartridge tin. All four dividers remain in the top portion of the tin. The inner flap retains both “ears” that are tightly attached. There was never an implement pouch in this pattern of cartridge box. The stitching on the body of the box is tight and unbroken.  Belt straps are only sewn.  Rounded brass finial on the bottom. Box measures approximately 6 ¼” x 1 ¼” x 3 ½” (for the short .54 caliber round ball cartridge).
