Model 1858 Smooth Side Canteen / SOLD

Classic Civil War US issued smooth side canteen. This one is complete with all three strap loops. One of the loops has a hole punched in it for the stopper chain, which is typical of New York Depot canteens. The pewter spout retains an original Civil War cork stopper, with a post-war brass chain attachment device. The original brown jean cloth cover is in good condition with a separation under one strap loop. A stenciled name and ink inscription are partially legible on the cover. An attractive original Civil War canteen.
