Patriotic Bowie Knife - Inventory Number: EDG 104 / SOLD
Blade etched with faint American eagle and the mottos: "WE ASK FOR NOTHING BUT WHAT IS RIGHT AND SUBMIT TO NOTHING THAT IS WRONG" and "DRAW ME NOT IN HASTE”. Made before the Civil War for the American market. Clipped-point bowie knife marked “R. Lingard / Pea Croft / Sheffield” with German silver cutlery type handle and guard, and original to the period scabbard. The blade measures approx. 7-1/2”, the knife is approx. 12 ½” overall. The blade shows some minor pitting. The front of tip is excellent. The scabbard is fair to good, lacking the finial and button type hanger. A genuine to the 19th century knife by a well-known maker.
