Rare Broadside Advertising the Volcanic Repeating Fire-Arms - Inventory Number: FIR 190
New York, circa 1855
An exceptionally scarce original broadside advertising the revolutionary Volcanic Repeating Fire-Arms, featuring rifles, carbines, and pistols capable of loading between 7 and 24 balls and discharging thirty rounds in just fifty seconds. The broadside is printed with bold, large headlines and a detailed woodcut engraving illustrating the internal mechanics of a Volcanic pistol.
Issued by J.W. Post, sole agent, from the Manufacturers’ Depot at 229 Broadway, New York, this broadside highlights the patent “Loaded Ball” technology, emphasizing its waterproof design and rapid-fire capability — innovations that would later influence the development of the Henry and Winchester rifles. The broadside also provides detailed operating instructions beneath the illustration.
Overall very well preserved with strong visual impact. A highly desirable artifact from the dawn of repeating firearms technology, preceding the American Civil War and the mass adoption of lever-action weapons.
Comes housed in 12 x 16 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
