Rare Engraved Colt 1851 Navy - Inventory Number: HAN 338

One of the most unique examples we have encountered.  This example appears to be a prototype of sorts for the 1862 contracts.  It was never issued a serial number and was produced with London manufactured barrel assembled in New York.  The top of the barrel is clearly marked “Address Col. Saml Colt New York U.S.A.”.  The cylinder is factory engraved with the brevet pattern floral scroll engraving with London proofs.

The condition is very good with original case colors and blued finish being heavily present throughout with some wear from age and handling.

Originally termed the Ranger model, the pistol’s name later evolved into the Navy model due to the revolver’s intricately decorated cylinder

Many notable historical figures fought with the 1851 Navy Revolver on their side to include: Wild Bill Hickock, John Henry, “Doc Holliday,” Ned Kelly, Robert E. Lee as well as the Texas Rangers prior to the Civil War.

An incredible specimen of art and artifact combined with the rarity of being one of possibly ten examples in this construction!
