Rare Model 1852 Sharps Carbine Serial #2260, .52 Caliber, Brass Mounted - Inventory Number: RIF 252

    1 of only 4,000 Produced

An extremely scarce example of the Model 1852 Sharps Carbine, serial number 2260, chambered in .52 caliber percussion. This early pattern Sharps represents one of the very first military-issue models to feature Christian Sharps’ revolutionary falling-block breechloading mechanism—well before widespread Federal adoption during the Civil War.

This carbine features brass furniture, including the buttplate and patchbox, and retains the distinctive early Sharps profile with a 21¾-inch barrel. The original “squirrel-ear” rear sight, characteristic of the 1852 model, is absent and has been replaced—common on these hard-used frontier weapons.

With a total production of only around 4,000 units, the Model 1852 is among the rarest of all Sharps military carbines. These arms were often issued to early U.S. dragoon and mounted rifle units and later saw militia and western frontier use. Surviving examples are rarely encountered in collectible condition.

Condition: Good to very good. Metal surfaces show smooth, untouched patina; brass mounts have mellow tone. Wood is solid with light handling wear. Breechblock functions properly. Rear sight replaced. A rare and desirable early Sharps carbine seldom found outside advanced collections.
