Schuylkill Arsenal Artillery Shell Jacket - Inventory Number: UNI 158 / SOLD
The exterior of this shell jacket is in good condition with scattered tracking from moths. The red piping on the jacket still retains strong color and is firmly in place throughout with one 1” section needing a tack stitch or two. The back has both pillows which are in good condition. The jacket has twelve buttons down the front, two on each functional cuff and two on each side of the collar. All are general service eagle buttons. The patina on the buttons is uniform. The base of the collar still retains the hook and eye closure attachment. All the seams on the exterior look to be tight.
The lining is a striped wool material which is in worn condition. There is a pocket in the left breast that is lined with white muslin. Both sleeves are also lined with white muslin. The right sleeve is stamped with two dots for size. The left sleeve has the number “2” and “SA” for Schuylkill Arsenal. All markings are strong. Both sleeves bear a marking from a prop company of Miller costume / NY. This is a classic example of a Civil War artilleryman’s jacket with strong color.
