South Carolina coat button of two-piece construction with a palmetto tree flanked by the initials “SC” on a lined field. A large amount of gilt remains on the face. The back is marked “Ph SCHUCKMAN/ CHARLESTON S.C.” Listed as SC 262A3 in Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865 by Warren K. Tice. According to Tice, this button was likely produced after the Civil War. A nice example.
