Springfield Armory Model 1851 Cadet Rifled Musket Dated 1853 - Inventory Number: RIF 190 / SOLD
This Gun was one of 342 issued to West Point Cadets which were rifled and fitted with long range sights and sent to West Point to update the obsolete smoothbores used previously.
.57 caliber, serial number 234 on the lower barrel band, walnut stock, bright steel fittings, marked on the butt plate tang "US" and "B/2", marked on the trigger guard tang "40", marked on the top of the lower barrel band "234", lock marked "SPRING/FIELD/1853" with an eagle over "US", barrel tang marked "1853", rifled barrel, blued sight, the breech marked "V/P" over an eagle head, and a ramrod with a flared tip.
Stock has a few light dings and nicks, the bore is bright and in good condition with some scattered light pitting near the muzzle, the lock functions properly, and in overall good condition.
