Standard Federal Issue 1864 Contract Knapsack - Inventory Number: LEA 193 / Sold
A good example of the standard issue double bag knapsack constructed of painted canvas which retains nearly all of the buckles and straps. Shoulder harness present but stiff. The bag opens to reveal two inside pockets. One has a flap with leather ties while the other has four folds that come together and buckle (lacking) into place to form a pocket. Most of the roller buckles and leather ties are present. The surface of some straps has minor crackling with finish loss. The anchors for the blanket straps are present along the top. Bag has been stuffed with acid free batting to keep its shape and displays well. Nice representative example of this basic piece of the Civil War Union soldier's equipment and becoming increasingly hard to find.
