Very Good Condition Savage Navy Revolver Distinctive Figure-8 Trigger Design - Inventory Number: HAN 353
A very good example of the distinctive Savage Navy Revolver, manufactured by the Savage Revolving Firearms Company of Middletown, Connecticut. This unique .36 caliber, six-shot percussion revolver was produced between 1861 and 1862, with approximately 20,000 manufactured, many of which were issued to Union forces early in the Civil War.
This example features the patented “figure-8” double trigger mechanism, designed to advance the cylinder and cock the hammer in a single motion. The metal exhibits a smooth plum and gray patina overall, with strong edges and crisp markings, including “SAVAGE R.F.A. CO. MIDDLETOWN, CT / H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856 / JANUARY 18, 1859” clearly visible on the top strap.
The walnut grips are well-fitted and retain good color and smooth wear, showing only minor handling marks. The action remains tight and fully functional, with excellent indexing and strong mainspring tension.
A scarce and mechanically innovative Civil War-era revolver, increasingly difficult to find in this level of preservation. A striking piece for any advanced Civil War or early American arms collection.
