Confederate States of America $1,000 Bond – February 20, 1863 Issue - Inventory Number: CON 608

An impressive and large-format Confederate $1,000 bond, issued under the Act of Congress C.S.A., February 20, 1863, and featuring a portrait of General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson at center. These bonds were part of the Confederacy’s desperate effort to finance the Civil War through public debt.

This example is printed on high-quality paper and bears intricate engraving, including ornate borderwork and a central vignette of Jackson. The bond promises 7% interest, with eight surviving coupons still attached along the lower edge, each for $35 semiannual interest payments.

Excellent paper tone and contrast; some edge wear and a small area of loss on two lower coupons.

These high-denomination bonds were issued from the Confederate capital at Richmond, Virginia, and today serve as historical artifacts of the South’s financial collapse and wartime propaganda.

An iconic and display-worthy example of Confederate financial history, complete with Jackson portrait and intact coupons.

Comes housed in 20 x 14 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
