Berdan’s Sharpshooter Buttons Coat and Cuff - Inventory Number: BUT 322 / SOLD

A really nice Goodyear patent rubber coat button. These are the buttons that were on the uniforms of the 1st and 2nd U.S. Sharpshooter Regiments, as opposed to the standard brass buttons worn by the infantry. There is a brass shank on the reverse. The back of the button reads “Goodyear N.R. Co. P=T. 1851.” Excellent condition.

The cuff button is manufactured by the “Novelty Rubber Co.” and is constructed of hard rubber with a brass pin from the shank in the center of the button, very nice example!

Button card was de-accessed from the “The National Civil War Life Museum” of Fredericksburg, VA which featured thousands of items pertaining to the daily life of the Civil War Soldier and the era.
