Civil War Era Clark’s Patent Shipping Pencil - Inventory Number:  MIS 170 / SOLD

Shipping pencil with wood container manufactured by the Clark Indelible Pencil Company of Northampton, Massachusetts. Patented in 1859, the pencil was designed “for directing all kinds of merchandise. A substitute for marking brush.” The pencil measures 4” in length and is in unused, like-new condition, complete with the original instructions. A unique Civil War era collectible. 

Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
