Martially Marked Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver - Inventory Number: HAN 358 / SOLD

    U.S. Military Issue, 1863 Production

A strong and very desirable martial Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver, manufactured in 1863, at the height of the Civil War. This .44 caliber, six-shot percussion revolver was the primary sidearm issued to Union cavalry and mounted troops, prized for its balance, power, and reliability.

This example bears full U.S. military inspection markings, including a crisp “U.S.” stamp on the frame and clear sub-inspector cartouches on both sides of the walnut grip, indicating direct government acceptance. The matching serial numbers (including wedge) confirm its authenticity as a Civil War-issued sidearm.

Metal surfaces exhibit an even plum colored patina with traces of case hardening and blue in protected areas. The barrel retains sharp edges, with a well-defined “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” marking along the top flat. The frame is clearly stamped “COLT’S PATENT”, and the cylinder retains a strong remnant of its original roll-engraved naval battle scene.

The grip is solid and shows light use, with visible cartouches and no cracks or loss. The action is fully functional with strong indexing and solid lock-up.

A very good example of a true U.S. martial Colt 1860 Army, manufactured during the pivotal middle year of the war—an essential piece for any Civil War arms collection.
