Grand March on the Potomac” – Union Patriotic Sheet Music, ca. 1860s - Inventory Number: MUS 212
A stirring piece of Civil War-era patriotic sheet music titled “Grand Union March on the Potomac”, composed for the piano forte by A.G. Pickens and published by Oliver Ditson & Co. of Boston.
The cover art, lithographed by A.J. Cailloux, depicts a dramatic wartime scene of Union troops on the march, framed by elaborately draped U.S. flags and a bold eagle crest. Officers on horseback lead ranks of soldiers beneath the banner “Union”, with cannon and stacked arms at their feet.
This visually powerful and emotionally charged piece reflects the patriotic spirit of the North during the height of the Civil War. A wonderful display item for collectors of Civil War ephemera or antique sheet music.
