Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by Emerson and Silver Trenton, New Jersey – Dated 1864, with Scabbard - Inventory Number: SWO 306

A fine example of the iconic Model 1860 U.S. Cavalry Saber, manufactured in 1864 by Ames & Silver of Trenton, New Jersey—a lesser-known but documented Civil War-period contractor. The blade bears a clear date on the ricasso along with maker markings, consistent with mid-war government inspection standards. Measuring approximately 35 inches in blade length, the saber retains its classic curved profile ideal for mounted service.

The brass guard shows a rich untouched patina with its original wire-wrapped leather grip mostly intact. Paired with its original steel scabbard, which exhibits expected wear from field use but remains solid, with an even aged finish and fully intact throat and drag. The saber displays no post-war alterations and remains in very good, untouched condition, making it a desirable representative example for collectors of Union cavalry arms.
