Civil War Union Officer’s Sword Belt Rig with Eagle Buckle - Inventory Number: LEA 462
Outstanding example of a Civil War Union officer’s leather sword belt complete with its original brass eagle buckle and sword hangers. The belt features a high-relief rectangular officer’s eagle buckle with a detailed spread-winged eagle clutching arrows and olive branches, surrounded by laurel wreaths, and the patriotic “E Pluribus Unum” ribbon above. The leather is in solid condition with moderate wear consistent with age and use, and retains both sword suspension straps with brass hardware and fastening rivets intact.
This type of rig would have been worn by Union officers in the field to suspend a Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword or similar regulation sidearm. A beautiful, untouched example with all the character of a wartime-worn piece. A centerpiece for any Civil War collection.
