The “Scott Legion” (20th PA Infantry”) was organized by Col. W.H. Gray and advertised in recruiting broadsides as a regiment staffed by officers who had fought in Mexico, hence the name “Scott’s Legion” for Winfield Scott, the American Mexican War commander in chief. Mustered in late April 1861, this 3-month unit was posted to Harrisburg and then assigned to Patterson’s Army, before mustering out 8/6/1861. Handsome display plate. Scarce.
Comes housed in riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
