Description
U.S. Non-Commissioned Officer Sword Belt Plate
Non-Commissioned Officer sword belt plate, dating to the opening year of the Civil War, circa 1861. This example is the true NCO pattern, manufactured as a single, one-piece brass plate, rather than the later two-piece officer construction with applied wreath.
The obverse features a cast Federal eagle with shield and radiating rays, flanked by an integral wreath—all struck as one solid piece. The face retains a rich, undisturbed golden patina with crisp detail throughout the eagle, shield, and wreath elements.
The reverse shows the original belt hook and rectangular belt slot, with natural age toning, oxidation, and surface texture consistent with period brass.
True one-piece NCO sword belt plates are considerably scarcer than officer examples and were intended specifically for sergeants and other non-commissioned ranks. Early-war examples such as this are especially desirable due to limited production before standardization increased later in the conflict.
A textbook, authentic NCO sword belt plate—ideal for a Civil War display, advanced accoutrement collection, or pairing with an original NCO sword belt.
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
