British Pattern 1821 cavalry saber manufactured by S&K and imported during the Civil War by the U.S. Ordnance Department. This version is known as the type II and is distinguished from the type I by the German style stopped fuller. The saber has a forged iron hilt and backstrap with ears, and a leather covered wood grip wrapped in brass wire. The scabbard and mounts are iron. The iron guard, backstrap, and scabbard all have an even brown patina. The blade is in very good condition and is turning slightly gray with age. The ricasso in marked “Tiffany & Co,” and the original bridle leather washer is still present at the base of the blade. The blade is 33 ¼” in length. A scarce and very attractive Tiffany Civil War saber.
